Ooops! Been neglecting this blog ...

I haven't posted for a while, and can't give you any good reason for that.  Day to day life gets in the way sometimes. Odd jobs and irritating tasks need doing, and sometimes have to take precedent over taking pictures and wittering away on Blogger.   Well, we managed to miss the worst of Storm Babet in this part of Yorkshire.  The rain fell continuously for an entire day, and I discovered there was a tiny gap at the top of the sliding glass doors leading to the conservatory, and through that tiny gap rain dripped down for hours!  I can't complain though, can I?  I mean, all I needed to do was deal with several sheets of soggy newspaper and a few damp cloths.  Nothing compared to the poor people whose houses have flooded.  I can't imagine how awful that'd be.   Today's foggy.  It's nearly lunchtime and it's not fully lifted.  I've been indoors this morning, happily splashing acrylic paint around and producing yet more prints us...

I thought we were due some rain ...

Today was another humid rainfree day, though without the ultra bright sunlight of the last week.  I did my usual early morning routine of deadheading garden flowers, a load of laundry, some half-hearted cleaning & hoovering.  Then it was on to the interesting stuff.  I'd already arranged these wonky log cabin blocks, pinning them together, so it was a simple case of feeding 'em into the sewing machine and making extra sure I matched up the corners of the blocks, getting them correctly aligned.  The only real trick to doing that accurately is to use lots and lots of pins.  I have previously tried using those plastic Clover Clips, and they're handy for many tasks but in this case you're better off with long dressmaking pins.  Mine have bright yellow heads, making them easy to spot and remove while you're sewing at the machine.   I'm not sure if this quilt's going to get any bigger, so it'll be put aside for now while I decide.  ...

Wonky log cabin blocks and a concertina notebook

On a day when the News is full of doom 'n' gloom - crumbling concrete roofs making schools unsafe, the situation in Ukraine, attacks on retail workers rising, Asian Hornets being found in the UK and the dire thread they pose to our bees - it was good to lose myself in crafty pursuits.  When the world feels like it's going to Hell in a handcart there's a lot to be said for immersing yourself in sewing or drawing, knitting, embroidering or whatever your favoured craft is.  This morning I made further wonky log cabin blocks, getting a little production line going, cutting out strips of material, attaching them, pressing them flat, pinning more strips on.  Before I got started on the blocks though, I made a quick concertina notebook, complete with covers made of upcycled Amazon cardboard packaging and covered with Gelli prints.   The pinkish-red is the back cover, the blue one is the front, and the pretty ribbon is courtesy of a charity shop.   I th...
