I've been dyeing feathers today. As you do ... I mean, I know it's a bit eccentric, but I'd watched this video on YouTube and fancied trying it. I've got several pheasant feathers collected when out walking, but they're too handsome to apply paint to. Instead, I collected pigeon feathers. Not the prettiest of birds when it comes to plumage but you can always find their discarded feathers on roadside verges. I used the gell plate, acrylic paint and stencils, and had mixed results. Not as accomplished as those featured in the video, but pleasing all the same. The paper underneath these feathers was a clean-up sheet, and makes a nice background for them. Using a black ink pad and a homemade stamp, I added the dotty pattern too. Don't know what I'll use the feathers for, but at some point an idea will pop into my head.
