Friday already?

Watering the houseplants, most of them Monstera (aka cheeseplants) I came across this sad little specimen.  I think he's heading for the compost bin, don't you?  Thankfully the Monstera, snake plants (aka 'mother in law's tongue'!), spider plant and parlour palm are healthy enough.  I have to hold back from over-watering them as I think that's my most common mistake with indoor greenery. No chance of over-watering outside as the weather's dry, dry, dry!  Not a drop of rain, though I'm relishing the sunshine.   I'll do a quick round-up of my latest fabric postcards.  First of all, Wednesday's.  I'd acquired various sheer fabrics, and hadn't sewn with those before, so I thought I'd give it a go, but on a small scale.  Wednesday's postcard was more about learning how to handle such slippery, slinky fabrics as it was about the finished piece.  Just two differently patterned sheers and lines of simple running stitch.   My Thursday p...

Monday into Tuesday (couldn't think up a snappy title!)

I'm not the best at taking photos, so this doesn't do justice to how pretty the view was yesterday when I walked into town.  The blossom!  The cow parsley!  The cloudless blue sky and the knowledge that summer really is just around the corner.   Days like that make me remember the decades I worked in offices.  Air conditioned, windows that wouldn't open, stuck in front of a computer screen, snatching the odd half an hour lunch break to get outside and enjoy the day.  I think I'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming back into that kind of regimented workday.  Of course, as I used to live in a busy city, my flat on a main road, I'd be walking to work and back past cars, breathing polluted air, God knows what going into my lungs.  I'm so, so glad I moved!  Life might be quieter now, but that suits me fine.  Anyway, on to crafty stuff - more of the '31 days' fabric postcards.  I'm enjoying this textile challenge, but at the sam...

Blue skies and sunshine

The foxgloves are flowering, the days are warm and sunny, its light until late into the evening, what's not to like about this time of year?  Coats and scarves can stay in the wardrobe, though the only downside is I can't keep wearing boots and must break out the sandals.  Better give myself a pedicure before I show these trotters to the world though!   Okay, here's a quick round-up of Friday, Saturday and today's fabric postcards for my '31 days in May' challenge.   This is Friday's, under construction.  I had the urge to play about with crosses.   Friday's completed piece.   I like using a mix of denim and cottons as you get a pleasing difference in textures.  Saturday's postcard was another play on using crosses.  This contained upcycled tartan patterned material from a skirt (bought in the eighties from the now defunct Chelsea Girl) and scraps from a mens tie.   I'm really pleased with the darker colours of t...

Cecilia? Felicia? No, it's Phacelia

Okay, before the crafty talk commences I'll share pictures from the allotment.  The iris are in bloom, and looking magnificent.  I thought they would as the tubers were baked by last summer's blisteringly hot weather, and apparently a lot of heat is what causes them to flower exuberantly the following year.  Also full of purple flowers and attracting the bees is the Phacelia.  I'd never heard of it before I bought the seeds, but it's a 'green manure', doing all kinds of good, worthy things to the soil by rooting in it.   Redcurrants?  Blackcurrants?  Who knows?  My labelling skills need working on.   This creeping buttercup is probably a weed, but it's pretty so it's staying put.   Right, that's enough greenery for now.  On to my seemingly never-ending fabric postcard challenge.  I was cheesed off with Tuesday's insipid effort, but Wednesday's made me happier.  I made sure to use a good amount of upcy...
