It's been snowing ...

 

The snow's not fallen deep and crisp and even, but lightly and for the time being everything looks pretty and kind of magical.  I set off fairly early this morning for church, walking along 'The LInes', a disused railway track that's now a combined bridle path, cycle way and footpath, home to joggers and dog walkers a-plenty.  Not this morning though.  It was beautifully peaceful. 
I think these are hawthorn berries, and they look like ruby coloured jewels with their white frosting.  
I'd wrapped up warmly, double gloved too, so I was cosy enough despite the chill air.  
I tried to capture details of how the snow had fallen on individual plants and seedheads.  
Love the contrast between the white snow and the carpet of fallen brown and gold coloured leaves.  
It's after 2pm now, and I'm home and not intending to head outside again.  It's an afternoon of sewing, nibbling on chocolate and reading more of 'The Mercies, a novel I'm enjoying but I'm wondering how many of the central characters are going to make it alive to the end of the story!

Threads of Freedom and charity shop bargains

Folding a zine and an alternative use for a bank card

  Hello again, and excuse me while I scratch my insect bites.  I don't know what it is, but at this time of year I'm invariably itching like crazy because I've been bitten by bugs.  It seems to coincide with blackberry-picking season, but whether that's purely coincidental I don't know.  Whatever's biting me, I'm obviously a tasty morsel in their world!  I might try using a highly scented oil like Tea Tree oil, see if that deters them.  Anyway, let's get on to more pleasant matters -  I'm having a go at making a zine style booklet.  Because I didn't have any paper large enough, I joined together two A3 sheets of sketchpad paper, using torn pieces of book pages for the joining.  I thought that'd look less noticeable than packing tape or similar.  Having chosen my colour scheme I used acrylic paint and an unwanted plastic bank card to apply the paint.  Plus a stencil, sponge and modelling paste.  Applying paint with a ATM card wa...

Taking a blog break ...

Hello!  And goodbye, at least for now.  The blog's on hold for a little while as I'm easing myself into 2026 gradually.  I'm still stitching and reading and enjoying life with Badger the cat.  Even though he treats my sofa like a giant scratching post!
